Filtration & Circulation

Home > Filtration & Circulation

For planted aquariums we recommend a filter turnover of of around 5-10 times your tank size. So for a 100 Liter aquarium, you need to aim between 500-1000 liter per hour flow rate. This power should come from your filter, or a combination of your filter and circulation pumps. High flow rates ensure nutrients and CO2 are sufficiently circulating to ALL areas of your tank, a really important factor often overlooked in planted aquariums. It is often the foreground and carpet plants that miss out on the all important water movement. If your looking to boost your circulation but do not want to buy a new filter, we would recommend adding an extra circulation pump.
